MOAI KUN
Moai Kun
Famicom 1990
Boy, talk about an obsession... Konami and those damn Easter Island heads. Best known from the Nemesis/Gradius series, the Moai statues seem to pop up in many Konami games--most of the time, for no apparent reason.
"Well," you say, "How the hell is this pertinent to the game? GET THE HELL TO THE GAME, DAMMIT!!!!!!"
Alright... settle down... Konami decided that, with the HUGE popularity of those lovable Easter Island heads, that they'd make a game STARRING one!!!... and, surprisingly, it didn't turn out that bad...
Well, now, the game involves walking around as one of these Moais and saving your little Easter Island buddies from the evil clutches of who knows what... It's half puzzle, half action... Save all of the little heads and get to the exit alive...best described as Lolo viewed from the side. An entertaining formula overall, although in the end, it turns out a to be a little too easy.
Now, seriously, this game doesn't make sense-- even for a game that's not supposed to... Its engine depends on those lovely 'inexplicably suspended platforms,' and the 'helpless prisoners' don't seem to be held back by anything... no cage, no cell, nothing... they just stand there weeping, waiting for you to touch them so they can disappear.
Through all this, though, it's still a nice diversion... especially for people who NEED them... (i.e. moi)-- Another quality Konami game... Did I mention that this was only released in Japan?
A real brain-teaser here... just make sure you don't use all your mental resources on this one...
See those enemies? You actually get to kill 'em, (HA!!) which is pretty unusual for this type of game.
